About Val

“What fashion designers create is greater than art because you live your life in it.” –Nigel (The Devil Wears Prada)

aboutWelcome to my blog! I’m Valerie Wyndham. It’s difficult to describe my insatiable passion for fashion but if I must, here goes. I would describe my style as glamorous and unapologetically feminine. I take “overdressing” to new levels and am unfazed by those who do not understand. Being frugal comes naturally to me as I find so many beautiful things in thrift stores. Mixing high (designer) and low (vintage, thrift) pieces is my signature. Growing up I was taught by my very stylish Mother that dressing well is a sign of respect to those around you. I channeled this theory later in life by coining the phrase “Dress Code Awareness”. It basically means that everywhere you go there is an unspoken level of dress and decorum and it’s my job as a lady to know exactly what that is. Most would call this paying way too much attention to detail. I prefer to call it “The Art of Overdressing”.

Though I appreciate and respect all eras of fashion I am most drawn to the 1940s and ’50s (Think Dior’s “New Look” silhouette!) and I’m heavily influenced by Renaissance art, vintage Vogues & Bazaar and women who in my opinion have a timeless, classic style. My friends will tell you it is a RARE occasion indeed that they’ll see me in a pair of jeans….or even pants for that matter! But I do sometimes try to step outside of my own girly little box and go “Edgy rocker” for the day. Or perhaps “Hippie Chic”, “Trendy Art Student”, “Russian Spy”, “Southern Belle” etc. You’ll see all of these “sartorial personalities” represented here.

I have been fortunate to have has a career in professional wrestling, acting and modeling that literally requires you to “play dress up” for a living and travel the globe. How I got so lucky, I’ll never know! But it is my greatest joy to be able to play different characters every day and interpret them through my outfits. Traveling in particular is the best way to execute an outfit you’d never normally wear. Plus….nobody knows you in an airport anyway, right? So rock those glasses be they faux or real! This is YOUR story. You call the shots.

I always encourage my friends to put some music on, flip through fashion magazines and let their creative juices flow. I guarantee there are treasures hiding in your closet right now just begging to be worn! I hope this blog will spark your interest and become fearless when it comes to fashion . When it comes to your own personal style there should be NO rules! So take this blog as an inspiration to create your own memorable outfits that make you feel like the most fabulous version of yourself. I’ll leave you with another quote that sums up my advice on dressing well. In my opinion, Lynn Wyatt put it best when she said her style could be described as…

“Class with a dash of sass, but never trash.” –Lynn Wyatt

Happy dressing!

Fashionably Yours,
Valerie E. Wyndham
