Andrew J. Hand focuses his practice on all aspects of business, real estate, local government, and land use law. In addition to providing representation to established large and small businesses, start-ups, homeowners and condominium associations, and individuals, Mr. Hand is a Board-Certified Specialist by the Florida Bar in City, County, and Local Government Law. He presently serves as City Attorney for three Florida municipalities, Assistant City Attorney for seven other municipalities, Special Counsel for numerous governmental entities, Assistant Attorney for the Florida Redevelopment Association, and decides those cases brought before him as an Orange County Hearing Officer.
A well-known and respected leader within the “green” movement, Mr. Hand was one of the very first attorneys in the United States to become a LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional. Mr. Hand has a passion for providing representation to clients undertaking sustainable redevelopment projects. The projects he finds most rewarding serve to reinvigorate urban areas once in decline via initiatives aimed at providing comprehensive environmental cleanup along with renewed opportunities for recreation, clean living, artistic design, and habitat restoration, all while showcasing the unique beauty of Florida’s natural environment.
A “quintuple” Gator, Mr. Hand has served on the University of Florida, Levin College of Law Faculty as an Adjunct Professor of Florida Land Use Law, and earned his LL.M. in Environmental and Land Use Law, Juris Doctor, Master of Science in Real Estate, and Bachelor of Science degrees all from the University of Florida. For his efforts as practitioner and educator, Mr. Hand has received numerous awards, including recognition from Law & Politics Magazine as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and the American Planning Association for his efforts as a team leader in the creation of a development code focused on innovative land planning methods.
Taught to prioritize philanthropy at an early age, Mr. Hand is a long-time supporter of the American Red Cross, Surfrider Foundation, Farm Sanctuary, and Mercy for Animals. More recently, he has made it his mission to assist and raise awareness for dogs affected by a devastating autoimmune disease known as Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome (SARDS). He actively supports the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists Vision for Animals Foundation (VAF) in its efforts to combat the condition. Both he and his wife, Monica, are zealous advocates for all disciplines of the Arts and are Members of the Barre here in the City Beautiful, in support of Orlando Ballet.
