Board-Certified Cardiologist
Dr. Egerton King van den Berg, Jr. moved to Orlando, Florida with his family in 1959 when his father Egerton King van den Berg, Sr. began what was to be a long and exceptionally distinguished legal career.
Dr. van den Berg worked in his father’s office in high school and college but dreamed of following a different path into Medicine. Dr. van den Berg graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Washington and Lee University in 1977.
He moved to Durham, North Carolina and spent 8 years at Duke University Medical Center, graduating from Duke University Medical School in 1981 and then completing a year of basic research in addition to 3 years of training as an intern and then as a resident in Internal Medicine.
In 1985 Dr. van den Berg moved to Dallas, Texas for a 3-year fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Texas Southwestern at Parkland Hospital and the Dallas VA Hospital. Dr. van den Berg completed his training with a 1-year Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond dedicated to the treatment of complex multivessel coronary artery disease with coronary angioplasty.
In 1989 Dr. van den Berg “came home to Orlando” and was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1988 and Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases in 1993. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology since 1994.
For almost 34 years Dr. van den Berg has been an Interventional Cardiologist in Orlando with additional offices in Eustis, Sebring, and Okeechobee, Florida. His practice has included cardiac catheterization with both coronary artery stents and peripheral arterial and venous intervention, nuclear cardiology, cardiac monitoring, echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, and importantly, a robust outpatient office practice where he has followed his patients’ progress for over 3 decades.
In 2019 Dr. van den Berg was honored with an invitation to join Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute which provided him with an opportunity to focus his practice exclusively on outpatient noninvasive cardiovascular evaluation, diagnosis, and long term follow up.
Exceptional standards for quality of care and an empathetic desire to listen and be available to patients characterizes Dr. van den Berg’s 34 years of practice. He has no plans to retire, loves to care for his patients, and hopes to be here for years to come.
