Dr. Jonathan Higgins is the founding member of the Vascular Surgery group at the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute.  Dr. Higgins has practiced in the greater Orlando area since 2013 and is a trusted name in the specialty of vascular surgery.  His patients like the fact that he gets great results and explains their procedures in a way that they can understand. He is known by his colleagues as being expert in his decision making, easily approachable and technically proficient.  The leadership at the Orlando Health Heart Institute recognized these qualities and recruited him to help lay the foundation for the creation of the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. 

Dr. Higgins joined the Orlando Health Heart Institute in October of 2018 with the goal of creating an integrated practice unit that provides collaborative, coordinated and comprehensive vascular care for patients.  When he first moved to Orlando, he noticed that the vascular surgery care was fragmented and poorly coordinated.  Patients would be seen by a cardiologist and a vascular surgeon for the same problem and yet there was limited to no communication.  The other thing that he noticed was that very little vascular surgery was offered at the smaller outlying hospitals, which meant that patients and their families would have the inconvenience of travelling for basic procedures.

The Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute provides patients with the opportunity to receive comprehensive Vascular care that is conveniently located close to home at one of our many locations across Central Florida. With a panel of experts from the specialties of Cardiothoracic surgery, Cardiology and Vascular surgery patients receive care that is multidisciplinary and provided by a group of physicians that collaborate and communicate about the patient care plan.

Dr. Jonathan Higgins sees patients primarily at the Ocoee location at Orlando Health Central Hospital. He practices the full breadth of vascular surgery from abdominal aortic aneurysm repair to the management of varicose veins, with a special focus on dialysis access and limb salvage procedures.  His approach is to involve the patient and their families in the development of a care plan that is customized for the patient.

Other team members of the Vascular Surgery group include Dr. Mohammad Abbasi and Dr. Edgar Guzman that see patients primarily at the downtown location of the Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute.  Additionally, Drs. Robert Winter and Kendrix Adcock who have been a part of the Central Florida Medical community for years continue to practice in the Maitland and Lake Mary region.  The newest member of the team is Dr. Laith Al-Balbissi who practices primarily in the Dr. Phillips area.
