Central Florida Veterinary Cardiology
Dr. Luiz Bolfer is the owner of Central Florida Veterinary Cardiology, Central Florida’s premier cardiology-only practice. CFVC offers state-of-the-art cardiac diagnostic evaluations, medical and interventional procedures, and therapies for animals suffering from cardiac and respiratory illnesses. Dr. Bolfer firmly believes that pets are family members, and thus performs his exams with the client in the room with their pet. He takes time to explain the diagnosis to the client with videos and heart models, addressing all of their questions and concerns that they have.
Dr. Bolfer was born and raised in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, where he spent his summers riding horses and tending to animals on his grandfather’s ranch, and it was there his passion for animals began. He received a full scholarship to veterinary school at the Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná where he graduated as Valedictorian in 2005. Upon graduation he accepted an internship at the prestigious Bobst Hospital of The Animal Medical Center In New York, his first experience in the United States, and decided he wanted to pursue his career here. He completed a subsequent internship at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery where he gained invaluable experience in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery as well as many lifelong friends.
After completion of his internship, Dr. Bolfer decided to seek out the Florida sunshine and accepted a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Florida where he discovered his passion for cardiology and cardiac procedures. He was also trained in Veterinary Hemodialysis and achieved a certification in Veterinary Hemodialysis by the University of California-Davis. At the University of Florida, Dr. Bolfer completed a Ph.D. in Cardiac Stem Cell Research and Gene Therapy where his research project “The Role of the Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Kinase 4 (PDK4) Gene Mutation in the Development of Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Doberman Pinschers and Potential Application of Cardiac Gene Therapy” was published in the prestigious Journal Nature. His research experience led him to a position as a consultant with eGenesis, for the advancement of safe and effective pediatric heart xenotransplantation procedures.
Upon completion of his Emergency & Critical Care Residency and Ph.D., Dr. Bolfer moved to Orlando where he completed a second residency in Veterinary Cardiology at BluePearl Hospital. Although it was difficult to leave the BluePearl family after more than four years, he established Central Florida Veterinary Cardiology to provide cardiac care to patients across Florida and beyond. With three locations around the Central Florida area: Ocoee, Davenport, and New Smyrna Beach, and new locations under development, he is able to provide cardiology care all across Central Florida at locations convenient to clients.
Not only is Dr. Bolfer an accomplished Veterinary Criticalist and Cardiologist and family man, but he is also a talented pilot and philanthropist. Dr. Bolfer is a private pilot and in his free time flies charity rescue missions for Pilots and Paws, an organization that connects animal rescues to foster homes, where he flies pets from kill shelters to their forever homes on their freedom flight to a new life. In his free time Dr. Bolfer enjoys spending time with his wife Lillian and their two children Lydia, 7, and Leonardo, 5, their two dogs Coco and Beijo, and two guinea pigs Lovey and Fluffy, as well as a menagerie of ducks, turtles, deer, and birds his wife tends to around their home. Dr. Bolfer has found a permanent home in Orlando and is committed to providing the area with the highest quality veterinary cardiology care with compassion and expertise.
