Dr. Avilucea is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Avilucea focuses on the care of complex pelvic and acetabular fractures, complex periarticular fractures, limb deformity, and limb salvage. Additionally, Dr. Avilucea has a keen and special interest in hip and knee replacement employing minimally invasive techniques and rapid recovery protocols. Moreover, he focuses on direct anterior hip replacement, robotic knee replacement (including partial knee replacement), and revision hip and knee replacement to address complex issues including infection, instability, stiffness, implant loosening, or fracture. Dr. Avilucea is committed to patient satisfaction and is keen on achieving high quality outcomes. 

Dr. Avilucea earned his baccalaureate in Biophysical Chemistry from Dartmouth College. He obtained his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he graduated with honors and went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he served as administrative chief resident. He thereafter completed an Orthopedic Traumatology and Post-Traumatic Reconstruction fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, Dr. Avilucea has been recognized nationally with the Limb Lengthening Reconstruction Society traveling fellowship. 

Dr. Avilucea has published over 50 articles, as well as numerous other educational contributions including book chapters. Prior to joining Orlando Health, Dr. Avilucea served as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery for the University of Cincinnati. He is currently a reviewer for multiple prestigious orthopaedic journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and the Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Avilucea remains actively involved in clinical research and medical education.

Dr. Avilucea seeks to thoroughly understand each patient’s concerns and treatment goals. Moreover, he enjoys educating his patients regarding all aspects of non-operative and surgical care. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
