Frank Avilucea, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, specializing in complex fracture reconstruction, advanced hip and knee replacement, and revision joint surgery. He is recognized for handling challenging cases—including pelvic and acetabular fractures, limb salvage, and joint replacement failures—where experience, precision, and sound judgment are essential.
Dr. Avilucea performs direct anterior hip replacement, robotic-assisted knee replacement, and minimally invasive joint procedures using advanced rapid-recovery protocols. He also treats complex issues such as implant failure, infection, stiffness, and instability, helping patients regain mobility and quality of life—even after difficult surgical histories.
After earning his degree in Biophysical Chemistry from Dartmouth College, Dr. Avilucea received his medical degree with honors from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Utah, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology and Post-Traumatic Reconstruction at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was also selected nationally as a Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society Traveling Fellow for his excellence in complex reconstruction.
Before joining Orlando Health, he served as Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, training residents and fellows while maintaining a high-volume surgical practice. He has published more than 50 scientific papers and book chapters and serves as a reviewer for respected medical journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
