USAP Anesthesiology​

Dr. George Sullivan is a native Floridian but later moved to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC with his family.  Dr. Sullivan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maryland with a degree in Biochemistry.  During his undergraduate journey, he spent a year working in Alaska to pay for college and medical school.  After working in Biochemistry research, he was selected to receive a Maryland scholarship to the West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  There he continued his studies in Physiology and Biochemistry which he would later use as a resident in Anesthesiology.  After completing his Anesthesiology residency, Dr. Sullivan completed a Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Md.  He then remained on staff there as an attending physician until he had the opportunity to return to Central Florida. In Central Florida he joined JLR Anesthesia which later became one of the founding groups of the nationwide United States Anesthesia Partners.

Along with practicing anesthesia for over 30 years in Central Florida, Dr. Sullivan has served in several administrative positions.  He has been a section chief, assistant chief of staff, and chief of staff, at Advent Hospital.

Nowadays, Dr. Sullivan spends most of his time doing compassionate, holistic anesthesia on each of his patients.  He strives to alleviate his patient’s anxiety surrounding anesthesia and surgery.  Dr. Sullivan also combines multimodal medications and nerve blocks with conventional anesthesia to reduce pain and nausea after surgery. His patient’s health and comfort levels are critical to his personal benchmark of success.   

Outside of Central Florida, Dr. Sullivan has also given anesthesia on mission trips in the Caribbean, Central America, and the Philippines.  

When not working or traveling, Dr. Sullivan enjoys spending time with his daughter Kaitlyn, Son in law, Mathew, son, Danny and grandson, Oliver.
