Dr. Hiep Nguyen is a cardiac and thoracic surgeon at Florida Heart and Lung Institute at HCA Florida Healthcare. Dr. Nguyen graduated from Rice University with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering. He later went on to graduate from University of Texas Medical Branch with a degree in medicine. He finished his general surgery training at New York Medical College. He took 2 years to study Molecular Cell Biology at Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine at New York University. He then came back to clinical work and finished his training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at New York University. After a long clinical practice in the Northeast United States, he transferred to Central Florida where he continues to practice today. As a lifelong learner, Dr. Nguyen is a recent graduate from Harvard Business School, drawing from his new analytics perspective to provide more optimized patient care.
Dr. Nguyen is experienced in minimally invasive heart valve surgery, aortic surgery, and robotic-assisted cardiac surgical procedures. Primarily, he focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery, as he believes that it not only gives his patients the best chance for a short recovery period, but also an overall healthier life. Dr. Nguyen enjoys taking care of his patients’ heart conditions, approaching patient care with compassion and discernment. He loves to see his patients recover from major surgeries and getting back to their families to enjoy their lives.
Dr. Nguyen credits the continual success of his practice to his surgical team, colleagues, supporting staff and administration team at HCA Florida Healthcare at Osceola Regional Medical Center. These colleagues contribute a breadth of experience and a long tradition of delivering excellent surgical care with care, compassion, and patient-centered focus. The administration team at Osceola Regional Medical Center is supportive of cardiac surgical care, providing the best care for the patients we serve in the region.
In conjunction with traditional surgical practice, Dr. Nguyen has also authored several articles from basic science research in vascular biology to clinical research in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. He has extensively presented and attended meetings on the topic of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, internationally and domestically. Furthermore, Dr. Nguyen spends significant time volunteering his medical services in countries with limited exposure to current cardiac surgical care, particularly Vietnam. He has been closely involved with starting and maintaining cardiac surgical programs with up-to-date practices in Vietnam.
In his free time, Dr. Nguyen enjoys being active in his community in Orlando with hobbies such as biking, jogging, hiking, and relaxing at the beach.
