Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon 

Dr. James Manzanares was trained at the best institutions in the United States. Medical school and residency were at the world famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. While there, he participated in neuroscience research as well, as was awarded numerous honors designations for his scientific and clinical rotations. While in residency, he joined the United States Armed Forces as a reservist.

After the 911 terror attacks on the world trade centers, he was activated as part of the 629 forward surgical team and served two combat tours of duty in Iraq as part of operation, Iraqi, freedom, and Egypt as part of operation, bright star, and finally, in. Landstuhl, Germany at the European equivalent of Walter Reed Army, Medical Center. Upon his return from his armed forces service, he served as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the Minneapolis and St. Paul’s children’s hospitals, Nemours children’s clinic in Pensacola, Florida, and subsequently Miami Children’s Hospital in Miami Florida. at that time, under the guidance of Dr. Michael O’Brien and Dr. Harry Shufflebarger, he was encouraged to pursue an Advanced Spine. Reconstruction fellowship. He was accepted ed at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he was trained by the spinal division in adult deformity correction and revision reconstruction spinal surgery. He returned to Florida, where he was in a private solo practice in Naples, Florida, and subsequently relocated to the Orlando area. 

In Orlando his practice in addition to complex deformity and reconstruction work, began to focus on minimally invasive techniques and disc replacement surgery. The values instilled in him at The Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins imbued his practice with the philosophy that needs of the patient come first.
