Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, P.A.
“While I can think of many lawyers who are more deserving, it’s an honor to have been selected the Orlando Personal Injury Attorney of the Year for 2020 by the readers of Orlando Style Magazine.”
Jim Cunningham grew up in Wisconsin and attended Florida State University, where he earned an athletic scholarship through his participation on the Varsity Track Team. He said the highlight of his track career was meeting his future wife, Joyce: “She was a star on the FSU Woman’s Track team. We were introduced on the track by a mutual friend – in December, we celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary.” The couple has three married children and nine grandchildren.
After graduating from FSU in 1973 with a degree in Marketing, Jim earned a Master’s from Rollins College’s Crummer School of Business in 1975. He went on to graduate from the FSU College of Law in 1977, where he served as President of the FSU Student Bar Association.
After law school, Jim moved to the Orlando area to start his legal career, and he’s been there ever since. “Central Florida is a great place to live, work and raise a family,” he said. “For the past 43 years, I’ve been privileged to represent people who were seriously injured and those who have lost a loved one as the result of the negligence of others. Dealing with the physical and emotional challenges of a serious injury, as well as the devastating effects of mounting medical bills and lost wages, is overwhelming. It’s gratifying to be able to use my experience to assist people who really need help.” Since 1977, Jim has helped countless people receive justice and fair compensation.
Mr. Cunningham has had a distinguished legal career. Since 1984, he has been recognized as a Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist by the Florida Bar. He has been certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocates since 1985. Jim has long been recognized in Florida Super Lawyers magazine, The National Trial Lawyers -The Top 100 and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Mr. Cunningham has served as an adjunct professor at Barry University College of Law where he taught Trial Advocacy. In 1989, he was inducted as a Charter Member of the Central Florida Chapter of The American Board of Trial Advocates. He has served as Chapter President and on the National Board of Directors of this elite trial lawyer’s organization. Jim has also served on the Boards of several non-profit organizations including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family First and Man in the Mirror.
In 2003, Jim graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary, earning a Master’s of Arts in Biblical Studies. Away from the office, he enjoys outdoor activities with family and friends at his farm in Lake County. He also enjoys writing on current events. His blog is found at www.House-Divided.com.
