Mid-Florida Surgical Associates
Dr. Jason Boardman brings a unique perspective to his surgical practice in the South Lake and Orange County areas impacted by his youth, education and early career. He graduated college from Miami University in Oxford, OH and proceeded to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor by entering medical school. He attended New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY on a military scholarship. He then went on to complete his surgical residency at Westchester Medical Center also in Valhalla, NY. After finishing he spent four years in active military duty stationed at Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, NY. While on active-duty Dr. Boardman deployed as part of the NATO mission to Kosovo to provide surgical support to Task Force Medical Falcon and spent 6 months in Baghdad with the 27th Combat Army Hospital providing surgical care in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was these experiences within the military that helped shape his perspective of surgical care and still impacts what he does today.
When he finished his active-duty obligation, he relocated to Clermont, Florida where he started a private practice, Clermont Surgical Associates. After 5 years he merged this practice with Mid-Florida Surgical Associates where he joined Dr. Jorge Florin and Dr. Christopher Johnson. Together they have built a surgical practice focused on patient first philosophies. Each of them has become experts in the field of robotic minimally invasive surgeries and often teach other surgeons these techniques. Dr. Boardman also has a special interest in breast disease. Since residency he has expanded his knowledge and skills to include ultrasound and minimally invasive breast biopsy techniques used to diagnose both benign and malignant disease. Other special interests of his include hernia surgery, treatment of reflux disease (heartburn), and office-based techniques for treating varicose veins.
Dr. Boardman has been recognized for his leadership skills and patient first mentality throughout his time in the area. He has served on the Board of Directors, including a position as President, for the former Lake Sumter Medical Society, which has subsequently merged with the Orange County Society. The Florida Medical Association in conjunction with the University of Florida nominated him as one of their inaugural class in the FMA Leadership Academy. He has served as Chief of Surgery, Chief of Quality Committee, and Chief of Credentialing Committee at South Lake Hospital as well as on the Board of Directors of the South Lake Hospital Foundation as the Vice President. He has been recognized as a Top Doc on multiple occasions for general surgery in Florida. The Consumer Research Council has also acknowledged him as one of “America’s Top Surgeons”.
Dr. Boardman and his wife, Dr. Mary Beth Lewis-Boardman, remain committed to the community. Together they have sponsored multiple events around the area to aid in cancer research, Autism treatments, homelessness, and underserved communities. They raised two young adults who are both currently living in Boston, MA, one working for Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the other attending Boston University.
