Joseph L. Torres, MD is a board-certified physician in both Family and Sports Medicine.  A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Torres’ parents emigrated in 1961 from Cuba and settled in the Miami area.  Joseph went on to study Medicine at Catholic University, and, after graduating, he proceeded to the University of Nebraska for his training in Family Medicine and subsequent Fellowship in Sports Medicine.

After his training, Dr. Torres returned to Florida and started a private practice in Central Florida almost thirty years ago.  During that time, he has also served as Chief of Staff at both Florida Hospital Kissimmee and Osceola Regional Medical Center.  At those two facilities, he also served as Chief of Family Medicine, Chairman of the Bylaws Committee, Chairman of Credential Committee, and Chairman of Quality Assurance Committee. He was Medical Director for the Human Performance Institute and the Osceola County Jail.  He was also appointed by City Commissioner Scott Brooks to the Airport Advisory Board for Kissimmee Gateway Airport, where he served for six years. 

 In the area of Sports Medicine, Dr. Torres has been a Team Physician for the Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers of Major league Baseball.  He has also been the Team Physician for Rollins College, Cypress Creek High School. The Orlando Seal Hockey Team, the Kissimmee Kreatures Arena Football Team, the Dominican Republic Team at the World Baseball Classic, and the Orlando Predators. He is a published author in textbooks on various Sports Medicine topics.

He is a Clinical Associate Professor for Florida State University College of Medicine, Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency, St Mathews University Medical School, and the University of Central Florida Athletic Training Department. He regularly lectures at the University of Central Florida to the Athletic Training students.  He was named Sports Medicine Physician of the Year for 2003 by the Athletic Training Association of Florida and Instructor of the Year in 2007 by the Athletic Training Department at the University of Central Florida. He has also served as a national speaker for Novartis Corporation, 3M, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Abbott Labs.

Currently, Dr. Torres is the Chief Medical Director and Founder of Florida Sports and Family Health Centers, medical facilities offering a broad range of medical services to patients from newborns to the elderly. Services include Internal Medicine, Echocardiography, Stress Testing, Women’s Health Issues, Diabetes and Cholesterol Treatments, Medical Orthopedics and more. He is also CEO/President of RMA Orlando MSO, a healthcare delivery system that provides care for patients enrolled in Medicare Advantage programs.

Dr. Torres is fluent in both Spanish and English and when he is not practicing medicine, he enjoys being a Black Belt instructor in martial arts, running, salt-water fishing, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
