After graduating from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis and military service as a Navy carrier

pilot, Ken received both his JD and LL.M. Tax law degrees from the University of Florida Holland Law Center. He began his legal career as a Tax-Trial Attorney with the IRS Chief Counsel’s Office in Washington, DC, and the IRS District Counsel’s Office in Jacksonville, Florida. He entered the private sector in 1976.The focus of his practice is “Wealthcare Law ” – federal taxation, wills, trusts, probate and trust administration.

When it comes to estate planning, I take a different approach. I certainly can help clients protect and pass on their material wealth; however, I remind them money and property are only part of the “legacy” they will leave their loved ones. Their intellectual, spiritual and relationship assets –

their story – who they are, where they’ve come from, what they believe and stand for– are certainly as, if not more, important to their heirs than their material possessions. I advise them to harvest and share the essence of their lives in order to enrich the lives of their loved ones. I believe this exercise in inter-generational cultural generativity will improve a client’s personal well-being and secure their memory within their family.

Sooner or later every family must face life’s inevitable existential crises -– illness, incapacity and death. When family elders carefully craft a legacy as a message to future generations, they better prepare them for these circle-of-life events. Younger family members gain perspective, become more resilient and the integrity of the family is enhanced.

The family is the fundamental building block of a society. Stronger families benefit both their

community and society.
