The Smith Family Law Firm is comprised of the AV-Rated husband and wife team of Roy and Lisa Smith, who have both been practicing law in Central Florida since 2000. The two met while on Law Review at the University of Florida College of Law. They were married in 1999 and settled in Seminole County, Florida, where they have three children ranging in age from 21 to 15. After working separately for different law firms, they opened their own firm in 2010.

Their Longwood-based law firm focuses on representing individuals in all matters relating to family, marriage, and children. The Smiths have a team approach to their cases and offer a myriad of tools to assist their clients in reaching a positive resolution, whether that is through litigation, collaboration, mediation, or other methods of settlement. Additionally, Lisa provides her services as a Certified Guardian Ad Litem, and Roy provides services as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil & Family Law Mediator.

Family law matters are unlike any other legal matter in that the parties typically continue to be connected in some way even when the case is over, particularly if they have children. Roy and Lisa pride themselves on not only advocating for their clients, but on guiding them through what is a very emotional process in a reasonable and conscious manner. Family law carries with it various complex issues that may involve paternity, divorce, children, premarital or postnuptial agreements, child support, alimony, modifications, enforcement, domestic violence, etc. The Smiths strive to provide their clients with the knowledge and confidence to navigate these difficult matters. “Even in cases that are purely economic in nature, it is common for people to carry significant emotions if it is a family-related conflict. When children are involved, the emotions rise even higher. It is very important to us that our clients feel heard and cared for throughout their case,” states Roy.

Outside of the office, the Smiths have dedicated themselves to their three daughters and to serving the community through their long-standing commitment to the arts. For the past several years, the Smiths have devoted substantial time to Lake Brantley High School‘s Band, Chorus, and Theatre departments. Roy is currently serving in his second year as the Band Booster President, and Lisa is in her third year as Band Photographer and Trustee. Lisa states, “Volunteering our time gives us a nice balance to our lives. We spend the majority of the week litigating, negotiating, counseling, and advocating for our clients, some of which are going through very strenuous times. Then we are able to shift focus, take off our lawyer hats, and simply become supportive parents doing something we love…helping children.”
