It is not very often you run into a Florida native, like Dorothy J. McMichen. After working as a legal secretary she decided to become an attorney. She graduated from the University of Florida Law School. Go Gators! Ms. McMichen was a general practitioner at first, but family law became her passion. Now, Ms. McMichen is one of only about 300 attorneys in Florida that is board certified in Marital and Family Law. In 2009, the law firm of McMichen, Cinami, and Demps, PLLC was established. As far as we know, this is the only mother, daughter and daughter law firm in Florida. McMichen, Cinami, and Demps, solely practices in family law. Between the three of the partners, they have 76 years of experience. Dorothy J. “Dottie” McMichen, B.C.S. has 36 years experience, Sonica R. Cinami, Esq. has 23 years experience and Melanie M. Demps, Esq. has 17 years experience. Ms. McMichen is especially proud
of the excellent reputation she and her daughters have gained with their peers and before the judicial community. In 2013, McMichen, Cinami, and Demps, PLLC received the Law Firm Award of Excellence from the Legal Aid Society and all members of the firm have received accolades for legal services to the community.

Sonica Cinami attended Stetson University College of Law where she graduated Cum Laude.
Ms. Cinami’s practice has a neutral focus working as a private guardian ad litem in child custody cases, mediating family law disputes as a certified family law mediator and as a parent coordinator. Ms. Cinami is trained to practice collaborative family law.
Melanie M. Demps attended Barry University School of Law where she graduated Cum Laude. Ms. Demps is trained to practice collaborative family law.
Ms. McMichen remarried after law school and has a third daughter, Cecilee McMichen, who has her Master’s in School Counseling. Her late husband, James McMichen, was a paralegal at their firm making their firm a truly “family” family law firm.
