Melvin Bowen Wright received his law degree from Mercer University in 1985 after securing his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Georgia in 1981. He then moved to Central Florida where he has spent his entire career in the field of civil litigation with an emphasis upon personal injury, wrongful death, and insurance coverage disputes. He is licensed to practice in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee and is often associated on cases within his specialty in other states. He is board certified by the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy, an accomplishment achieved by less than 1% of Florida attorneys. He has been selected by his peers as the U.S. News & World Report Best Lawyers Lawyer of the Year – Plaintiffs in Orlando for 2023. He has been named by his peers as a Thomson Reuters Superlawyer every year since 2006, one of the Top 100 Superlawyers in Florida since 2020, and one of the Top 50 Superlawyers in Orlando since 2018.
He handles all types of trials involving serious injuries and wrongful deaths, including motor vehicle and trucking accidents, accidents on commercial property or construction sites, defective or poorly maintained products, and institutional abuse and neglect of the elderly in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and the developmentally disabled in group homes or other institutions.
Mr. Wright has achieved many multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in cases ranging from motor vehicle accidents to defective product accidents and accidents on commercial property. He participated as a part of a team of attorneys nationally in obtaining a 200 million dollar settlement in 2015 in a national mass tort pharmaceutical case arising from tainted steroid injections manufactured in Massachussetts that resulted in serious infections in Florida and nationwide. He continues to lead a team of attorneys in the field of personal injury and wrongful death arising from general negligence and institutional neglect and abuse as he enters his 40th year practicing trial law in Central Florida along with his partners who handle medical malpractice, workers compensation, social security and VA disability and arbitration of financial losses in securities investments.
He and his wife and constant compass, Racheal, have enjoyed raising two successful children, one of whom is pursuing a career in local law enforcement and one of whom is pursuing a masters degree in communications.
