Enhancing Pet Health through Expertise and Empathy
Dr. Rik was born and raised in Orlando, FL, and has had a lifelong passion for working with animals. He began his journey in the veterinary field by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Central Florida while working as a technician at Waterford Lakes Animal Hospital. It was during this time that Dr. Rik discovered his deep appreciation for veterinary medicine.
In 2016, Dr. Rik’s dream of becoming a veterinarian took flight when he enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. He completed his clinical education at the University of Missouri, where he developed a particular interest in small animal surgery, oncology, dentistry, and preventative medicine.
After earning his degree in 2020, Dr. Rik spent time practicing in Mount Dora before returning to his roots in Orlando. He rejoined the Waterford Lakes Animal Hospital team as the Medical Director and is thrilled to be back in the community where he first started his career, working alongside familiar colleagues and friends. One of his greatest joys at Waterford Lakes is mentoring new graduates, externs, technicians, and aspiring veterinarians.
Dr. Rik is married to his wonderful wife, Bri, and together they have two sons, two rescue dogs, and a rescue cat. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, traveling, and visiting Disney and Universal with his family. He is also passionate about volunteering at local animal shelters and rescues across Central and North Florida.
Dr. Rik’s passion for veterinary medicine is evident in every patient he treats, always caring for them as if they were his own fur babies. His dedication to veterinary medicine, strong ties to the community, and unwavering support from his family make him a valued leader at Waterford Lakes Animal Hospital.
