Lung – Asthma – Sleep

He graduated medical school from the University of Ilorin in Kwara state in Nigeria. After a year of internship in Nigeria, he moved to the USA where he completed his residency and fellowship training at Henry Ford Hospital and the University of Cincinnati, respectively.
He is the founder and managing partner of the Florida Lung Asthma and Sleep Specialists (FLASS), with offices in Celebration, Poinciana, and Orlando. Established in 2006, the practice currently has five other physicians who Dr. Alabi strongly believes are instrumental to this award.
Having received this award for the second year in a row, Dr. Alabi wants to recognize his loyal patients which make this all possible. They inspire him and his partners’ mission to continuously provide quality and compassionate medical care. He also wants to recognize the many referring physicians that have entrusted their patients to his group over the years.
Dr. Alabi’s Philosophy: I see myself as an extension of my patient’s family, providing reliable, compassionate and expert guidance for my patients and their families.
I believe that patients should be treated just like medical professionals would like to be treated or how they would expect their family members to be treated when ill.
I believe physicians should be care partners and work together with their patients in the decision-making process. The only way this can be achieved is by taking time to explain everything to patients so that they can understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
I believe that the emphasis should always be on the patient and never on their disease.

What Sets Us Apart:
I believe that at the core of medicine is a special gift from God to use our hands to make a difference in the lives of people that needs God’s healing. I see this as a wonderful blessing and I take this special gift very seriously.
At Florida Lung Asthma and Sleep Specialists, we are particularly blessed by some of the most competent and capable office professionals that make our doctors even more efficient. We are where we are today as a practice because of their commitment and dedication to our patients.
We take special steps to break down the wall that exists between patients and doctors in order to provide a real human experience with our patients.
We are different because we sincerely care about our patients. They are not just patients to us but an extension of our FLASS families.
Preventing medical errors: what you need to know
Medical errors now rank as the third leading cause of death in the USA. Only cardiac diseases and cancers are responsible for more deaths than medical errors.
Medical errors include but are not limited to the following:
• Medication errors (wrong dose or wrong drugs)
• Wrong diagnosis
• Delayed diagnosis
• Wrong treatment for right diagnosis
• Wrong surgical sites
What can a patient do to stay safe?
– You have to be an advocate in your care and be an active participant
– Always keep records of all your medications
– Keep records of why each medication is being prescribed
– When a doctor orders a test, make sure to ask about the reason for it and how it will change treatment
– Ask questions about each medicine before taking them
– Always ask your doctor why a particular treatment is recommended and discuss the alternatives
– Research your doctors very well and don’t just assume that all doctors are the same.
– REMEMBER THAT IT’S YOUR BODY- YOUR TESTS, YOUR TREATMENT
The most important things in my life are God and my family. I know I would not be here today without their support.
