Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer

For more than 30 years, Civil Trial Lawyer Steven R. Maher has been a tireless advocate for the rights of individuals who have been injured as the result of the wrongful acts of others; and has helped thousands of such individuals achieve justice. After graduating from the University of Southern California Law School and practicing at a prominent Los Angeles personal injury firm, Steve moved back to his native Orlando in 1991to practice law with his father, past Association of Trial Lawyers of America president Michael Maher.

Steve’s commitment to success is evident in everything he does. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar (a distinction held by less than 7 percent of Florida lawyers). He is also an active member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), as well as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, both invitation-only organizations in which members must have extensive jury trial experience. He is also a long-time member of both the Florida Justice Association and the American Association for Justice.

In recognition of his outstanding advocacy, Steve has won numerous awards, including “Lawyer of the Year” by the publication Best Lawyers in America for the Orlando area in the fields of Plaintiff’s Personal Injury and Products Liability for the years 2017 and 2019. He has been named to the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” each year from 2007 to 2018 by The National Trial Lawyers Association, and was named to the 2017 “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine. He has also earned an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible, and has been featured in Florida Super Lawyers magazine every year since 2007.

Steve has successfully secured a significant number of multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients, leading to his certification as a life member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum®. A few notable examples include a $25 million jury verdict in a patent infringement case; a $10 million jury medical malpractice verdict involving the wrongful death of a child; and a $6 million verdict from a jury in Philadelphia, which was the largest verdict against a nursing home in Pennsylvania.

In addition, Steve is heavily involved in cases involving dangerous and defective drugs; and has been appointed to leadership positions in Federal Multidistrict Litigations involving such cases throughout the nation.

Steve maintains a national practice and is licensed to practice law in the following states: Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, New York, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, and New Jersey. He has lectured extensively throughout the country on trial advocacy and personal injury law and is heavily involved in a number of organizations aimed at protecting our constitution’s right to trial by jury.
