In a stunning nod to its heritage, BMW Motorrad introduces the BMW R 12 S, an expansion of the Heritage range that pays homage to the legendary BMW R 90 S. First unveiled in 1973, the R 90 S redefined motorcycle dynamics with 67 horsepower and a top speed of 200 km/h. But it wasn’t just about performance; it was a statement of style and innovation. Designed by the visionary Hans A. Muth, the R 90 S became the world’s first production motorcycle to feature an aerodynamically designed handlebar fairing, with a distinctive red “90” emblazoned on the engine emblem—a detail that turned heads both on and off the racetrack.

The R 90 S quickly cemented its place in history, bolstered by significant racing victories. Notably, Hans-Otto Butenuth and Helmut Dähne secured a class win at the 1976 Isle of Man Production TT, while Steve McLaughlin triumphed at the prestigious 200 Miles of Daytona. That same year, Reg Pridmore became the first AMA Superbike Champion, further elevating the R 90 S to iconic status.
