Oakland Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Walmir Da Costa was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and lived in Caracas, Venezuela for 10 years prior to moving to south Florida at the age of 16. He speaks fluent English, Portuguese and Spanish. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Irene, and they have four very active boys. He loves all sports, especially soccer and Gator Football, and enjoys being active with his family.

His love for pediatric dentistry began when his first-born son was diagnosed with cleft lip and palate. It was during that time that he decided to change careers and pursue dentistry. His personal experiences helped him develop a special bond with cleft and special needs patients.

Dr. Da Costa strongly believes that a child’s early dental experiences play a significant role in shaping their long-term attitudes toward oral health. His goal is to help children establish good habits and maintain healthy smiles from an early age. He uses a kind, patient-centered approach that prioritizes trust and open communication, ensuring that every child feels safe and supported during their visits. His hope is for every child to connect dental visits with fun and comfort. He is a firm believer in prevention dentistry, preferring conservative treatment choices when appropriate.

Dr. Da Costa received a Bachelor of Science (Finance and Sports Management) dual-degree from the University of Florida. After completing his dental degree at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, Dr. Da Costa pursued advanced training and received his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, also at the University of Florida, where he served as Chief resident. There, he developed expertise in a wide range of areas, including preventive care, early intervention, behavior management, sedation dentistry, and treating children with special needs. His commitment to continuing education ensures that he stays current with the latest advances in pediatric dentistry, allowing him to offer the most innovative treatments available.

Prior to opening his practice in Winter Garden/Oakland, Dr. Da Costa worked in Lake County, mostly seeing underserved children in the surrounding areas. He is now excited to be a part of the local community and looks forward to building new and strong relationships with families in the area.

He is Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
