Dr. Whitney Thorne is a board-certified vascular surgeon with the Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute. She believes that understanding her patients’ social, mental and physical well-being enables her to provide the best possible care. She treats her patients like she would want own her family to be treated.

Dr. Thorne earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she participated in intercollegiate golf. Dr. Thorne also has a master’s degree in biology from Purdue University. She earned her degree in osteopathic medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in integrated vascular surgery at TriHealth/Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. 

Dr. Thorne is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and has a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation certificate from the Alliance for Physician Verification & Advancement which certifies her expertise in reading vascular ultrasound. Her professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons, Society for Vascular Surgery, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, Florida Medical Association and Florida Osteopathic Medical Association.

Dr. Thorne treats a variety of vascular conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysms, blood clots (deep venous thrombosis), carotid artery disease, critical limb ischemia, intestinal ischemia, popliteal artery aneurysms, renal artery stenosis, varicose veins, vascular complications and infections, venous ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg swelling, dialysis access, and atherosclerotic disease. She provides both endovascular (non-invasive) and open options as appropriate.

Outside of work, Dr. Thorne likes to read, play golf, swim, run, travel and spend time with her family and two Great Danes. She has completed multiple half marathons as well as competed in the 2009 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links in Devens, MA. 

Dr. Thorne sees outpatients in Lake Mary and Oviedo. She performs most of her procedures at Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital.
