Brain & Nerve Center, an advanced neuromuscular and neurology care center, was founded in 2011 by Dr. Yassar Chakfe to provide residents of Central Florida individualized superior neurologic care. Dr. Chakfe is a distinguished neurologist and neuromuscular specialist, a talented educator and neuroscientist who has over 25 years of combined expertise in neurologic care, teaching and research that enabled him to position his practice in the forefront of neurology providers in Central Florida. He utilizes state of the art technology and diagnostic tools combined with up-to-date evidence-based therapies to individualize the care to meet each patient’s needs and co-existing health issues. Dr. Chakfe believes in the significance of educating his patients about their neurologic conditions and treatment options to help them make the best informed decision when choosing appropriate treatment and to ensure their compliance with it. Dr Chakfe enjoys managing patients with all neurologic conditions, particularly those with challenging presentations. 

Dr. Chakfe obtained his MD from Damascus University in Syria. He then moved to Canada and pursued his academic career in neurologic research at the renowned Center for Research in Neuroscience and Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University. His research centered around investigating mechanisms underlying normal and disease processes of the brain. He completed his graduate studies from the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and obtained a Master of Science degree. His research was presented at international conferences and published in distinguished neuroscience journals.

Dr. Chakfe then completed neurology residency training at State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University followed by a fellowship training in clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women Hospital and Harvard Medical School where he was mentored by world-renowned neuromuscular specialists. This outstanding training has enabled him to be a leader in the delivery of neurology and neuromuscular care in Central Florida.

The primary focus of Dr. Chakfe’s practice is diagnosis and management of patients with neuromuscular conditions such as motor neuron disease (e.g. Lou Gehrig disease), autoimmune neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis, Guillain Barre Syndrome, CIDP, and other neuropathies and muscle disease. Among other neurologic conditions he treats are Migraine and headaches, autoimmune encephalopathy, memory disorders and Dementia, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, dizziness and gait difficulty, tremor and Parkinson’s disease and many others. 

Dr. Chakfe has been actively involved in medical education where he mentors medical students and neurology residents. He is affiliated with University of Central Florida and he is a founding member of the UCF/ HCA Neurology Residency program. He is a recipient of several teaching awards.

Dr. Chakfe is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and a fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Chakfe enjoys spending time with his family, visiting new places and learning about new cultures. He also enjoys cooking and barbecuing for family and friends. He and his teenage boys are great supporters of Orlando City Soccer Club.
