We set sail the Virgin Way with Champagne in hand, saying bon voyage to Miami and here we come Costa Maya! Once a sleepy enclave of fishing villages nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, today Costa Maya is a gateway to incredible natural wonders, ancient Mayan ruins, and some of Mexico’s best diving.
Bacalar Lagoon in the state of Quintana Roo is only a short hour’s drive from Puerto Costa Maya, making for an easy day trip to paradise where 7 shades of blue await. Bacalar is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Other than the main attraction Bacalar Lagoon, there are Mayan ruins, historical landmarks, and cenotes.

Day at Sea—Thankfully the toughest decision was whether to spend the day by the pool or in your Yellow Leaf hammock at your Clever Cabin terrace, all the while taking in the sea views and sounds of the waves. These Clever Cabins are spaciously equipped with a glam area for you to get ready, a Roomy Rainshower and a dreamy bed. If you want to be more social, you can request for your Seabed to be transformed into a comfy sofa during the day and order in from the room service menu. For a little R&R, you can also spend some time at the Redemption Spa, their mermaid and merman hideaway. The Thermal Suite features a hydrotherapy pool, mud room (mud included), salt room, cold plunge pools, quartz beds, all for a nominal fee. If you want to spurge a bit on yourself and/or your significant other, why not get a rejuvenating spa treatment or two. You are worth it and won’t regret it!
After a relaxing day at sea, we were ready to have an all-out fiesta at the Pink Agave. They’ll transport your tastebuds to the vibrant streets of Mexico City through Pink Agave’s authentic flavors and expansive array of mezcal. Pro tip: bring your camera for one of Scarlet’s best photo ops — the entrance to Pink Agave.
After an incredible dinner and one too many mezcals, it was time to see one of the many entertainment shows onboard. And on this night we chose Duel Reality. This signature performance examines the age-old tale of Romeo & Juliet with a modern twist featuring acrobatic storytelling. It was spellbinding. Worthy of Cirque du Soleil and Broadway.
Grog Walk did you say? A fun pub walk to discover Scarlet Lady’s best drinks and bites as we made our way to all signature bars. After that it was snooze time. Lights out. Finito.
Ahhh, a new day awaits and what a treat…we have arrived in Bimini, Virgin Voyages Beach Club in the Bahamas. It is a stunning collision of restoration and exploration — with the luxury of St. Tropez, the raw beauty of the Maldives, and the energy of Ibiza. And, at the end of the night we said goodbye with a bonfire bash under the stars. What more can you ask for?

Gunbae is the first Korean Barbecue on a cruise — delish! Be prepared to play fun games and say Gunbae and drink a lot! Test Kitchen is laboratory-like eatery designed by Concrete Amsterdam is part cooking school and part restaurant, making it the ultimate chance for discovery through cuisine with an atmosphere that is educational, experiential and social all in one. Only a list of ingredients will be provided to us, and our meal will be put in the hands of the chef to deliver incredible cuisine. Just think Good Eats. My favorite was our final night’s dinner. We enjoyed a glamorous dinner at The Wake complete with steak, seafood and rich desserts. It was one of the very best. I must say I’ve been to many incredible restaurants and this one is definitely on that list!
The last Rendezvous favorite was Welcome to Scarlet Night that reigns supreme above all others. This fully immersive celebration follows a fabled love between the mysterious Goddess of the Sea and the Sailor who won her heart, culminating in an epic, can’t miss pool party at the Aquatic Club. Wear Red or a red scarf or just anything red. You are going to be immersed in a Sea of Red.

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady is quite inexpensive and you get so much for your money. 5-nights of pure bliss. With dining at 20+ eateries, all gratuities covered, free wifi, basic beverages and unlimited group fitness classes — all included in the voyage fare. Alcoholic beverages are quite reasonable in price as well. Great entertainment, singers and musicians to boot!
