Mother’s Day – Gift of Spa

By Omayra La Bella

May is one of the months of the year which people love most.

Why? Because it’s the month we celebrate Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is the one day of the year when we honor and express our love and gratitude for the roles that all the mothers in our lives—moms, grandmothers, and aunts—play for our families. Having to work outside the home and return to the daily grind of taking care of the family puts women under more stress than ever before. Spending Mother’s Day at a spa gives mothers the ultimate gift of luxury while also providing them with some much-needed peaceful “ME” time

“Spa Days” are now trending!!! They are no longer just a luxury enjoyed by the rich and famous. Costs have greatly reduced with the emergence of several wellness spas around town. More and more individuals are understanding the value of spa treatments to reset their bodies and minds. Spa treatments provide an enjoyable method to relieve physical tension and benefit from the advantages of relaxation as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Spa menus usually offer several different types of package deals. They are usually broken down by time frames, which often include luxurious massages, facials, body contouring as well as body wraps and foot soaks. I want to focus my discussion on my favorite part of spa visits, which is “Massage Therapy.”

Massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing, and manipulating your skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Massage may range from light stroking to deep pressure. It’s often considered part of integrative medicine. A seasoned massage therapist has a vast toolbox of techniques that can be tapped into based on individual needs, and he or she can respond and modify these techniques based on your feedback, so don’t be afraid to speak up and let them know exactly what your needs are.

The massage begins with proper spa etiquette. Immediately, the treatment room separates you from your cell phone and technology. This action alone can be a healing experience. The environment you are exposed to is serene, with soft music, low lighting, and fragrances that stimulate the relaxing of the mind and body. You are given time in silence for reflection and/or mindfulness, and before the actual massage begins, you experience the presence and touch of a nurturing human being. Sometimes we forget that our bodies need some pampering, and we often take that for granted. I personally schedule a monthly massage, as part of my maintenance routine, because it helps to relax my muscles and allows me some much needed “ME” time.

“Massage Therapy” helps with pain management in chronic conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, and muscle spasms. With the addition of a “heat treatment” during the massage, it helps stimulate blood circulation and initiate the purifying process. This improves blood circulation by delivering oxygen and nutrients to our cells, which results in the lowering of blood pressure and eases pain in our bodies. There are several other benefits of massage besides reducing body pain. It decreases stress and frustration, improves muscle flexibility, improves immune systems, reduces pain in the backbone, and helps you sleep better, and we all know the importance of a good night’s rest for our bodies.

Whether you’re visiting a spa for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or even a week, know that you’re doing something positive towards your self-care and overall well-being.

Make a trip to the spa a regular part of your health routine; it is an important way to combat the stressors in life. Prioritizing yourself will lead to a healthier and happier you, which is the best gift you can give to yourself or someone you love for Mother’s Day. My recommendation is to book it, it’s worth it, and your body will appreciate it.

So next time you feel like you need a spa day, I highly recommend my go-to spa for years, Health & Spirit Wellness Spa, by Iraida Pena located in Oviedo.

Now that you have the perfect Mother’s Day gift for the most inspiring women in your life, make sure to plan accordingly.

Book the spa appointment, shower them with gifts, and most importantly, with love!
