George White, MD

Orlando Hand Surgery Associates 

Dr. George White founded Orlando Hand Surgery Associates in 1991. He attended Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and subsequently did residencies in general surgery and orthopedics at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed his hand and upper extremity fellowship at the Curtis hand Center which is now the National Hand Center in Baltimore Maryland. Dr. White was active in teaching and research during his training and has authored multiple articles. He and his family moved to Orlando in 1986. His first son Brian, has now become one of the senior partners at Orlando Hand Surgery Associates.

Dr. White was one of the first orthopedic hand surgeons in the Central Florida area. He worked to bring prominence to microvascular surgery and replantation in the Central Florida area as well as expanding the available upper extremity procedures. He was named teacher of the year for orthopedics at Orlando health in 1990 and was very active in the residency program early in his career. Dr. White has created many new techniques in hand surgery including thumb reconstruction, distal wrist reconstruction and the treatment of hand arthritis and its relationship to tendinitis of the hand. Dr. White has completed over 100,000 surgical procedures in his 40+ year career and has expanded the footprint of Orlando Hand Surgery Associates to include offices in Celebration, Winter Garden, Deltona and a new office opening in East Orlando soon. The practice has expanded to over 25,000 office visits per year and is considered the preeminent hand and upper extremity practice including shoulder and elbow problems in the Central Florida area.

Dr. White has been named one of the top 10 shoulder surgeons in the US by Becker’s. He was also named as one of Orlando’s Doctors of the year and one of the best doctors in Orlando by Orlando Magazine. He is included in Who’s Who in the US. Orlando Style Magazine has named him a top-tier professional and one of Orlando’s men and women of the year. Castle and Connelly had named Dr. White’s practice one of the top orthopedic practices the United States, and U.S. News & World Report has named Dr. White and his practice as one of the top orthopedic practices in the southeast United States. Dr. White continues to actively see patients and perform surgery. 

Dr. White thinks his most important contribution to Central Florida is the addition and mentoring of other young preeminent surgeons that have joined the practice. Doctors Brian White, Dr. Anup Patel, Dr. Nick Newsum and Dr. Cody Hillin were all recruited by Dr. White from prestigious hand surgery programs and each has contributed immeasurably to the services and reputation of Orlando Hand Surgery Associates.
