Chirag J. Patel, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained, comprehensive and cosmetic ophthalmologist who believes in establishing a trusting and long-lasting rapport with each and every patient to promote lifelong eye health.
With roots in the small central Florida town of Fruitland Park, Dr. Patel developed a passion for people and the community at an early age. He learned life’s most important lessons from his parents, who operated a local business in the small town. The ability to help people and develop long-lasting relationships was a strong impetus for Chirag’s pursuit of medicine.
After graduating as the Valedictorian of his high school, Chirag attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Biochemistry. He was named an Anderson Scholar for his exceptional academic performance. Beloved to his Gators, he continued his medical education at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. He then completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Richmond University Medical Center rotating through the ICU and medical wards. Chirag then completed a three-year residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. During his residency, Dr. Patel had the privilege of learning under renowned leaders in the field of refractive surgery and ophthalmic plastic surgery. He then completed a Fellowship in Medical Retina and Research at the University of Florida – Jacksonville. Finally, Dr. Patel continued practicing and teaching residents at the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.
Ultimately, Dr. Patel founded Lake Nona Ophthalmology in 2013 as a unique, patient-first practice founded on the core principles of compassion, community, and cutting-edge care. He has since established Lake Nona Ophthalmology as an elite and premier practice offering refractive laser cataract surgery, vision correction surgery (LASIK, PRK), Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), advanced functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery, and non-invasive facial cosmetic procedures. In October of 2022, Lake Nona Ophthalmology opened a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. The new 5,000-square-foot space blends the practice’s medical and aesthetic specialties. Not only will patients have an elite surgical eye care facility providing cutting-edge treatments for vision correction surgery, cataract surgery, and a range of other eye conditions, but now patients will also have access to an intimate, boutique-style medical spa that provides the latest technology and techniques in facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Patel is on staff at both Advent Health and Orlando Health. He is involved in medical education as voluntary faculty at UCF, College of Medicine. Additionally, he is an active member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, New York Academy of Medicine and Florida Society of Ophthalmology.
Outside of the office, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking, playing sports, and rooting for his Gators!
